Design
If you are going to buy a premium office or gaming chair, you are going to want premium looks, and it doesn’t get much more premium than the GT Omega SPORT chair.
From the first moment, I turned my blue eyes toward the chair; I was convinced it had been ripped straight out of a high-performance sports car. Everything from the bucket seat feels to the way the lips on the seat curve around to hold your legs, to the hug of the back rest around your kidneys is present and correct. In fact, you would be forgiven for wondering where your 5-point harness is located when you sit within it racing pedigree embrace. I often reached up and around, over my shoulder, fingers grasping at thin air as I groped for the safety belt.
Whether you think a seat that looks like something out of a Formula 1 car is appropriate for the office is another matter. But if you can get away with it, if you can use it for work during the day and play by night, there is no better-looking chair.
Comfort
Look beyond the aesthetics, and you will find a plethora of features that are ready to provide the best desk seating experience money can buy. The first that caught my eye was the reclining and tilt functions. Firstly, the seat can recline to 160 degrees at the pull of a very well placed side lever. A little tug of the plastic appendage and the back of the chair folds down to let you have a snooze after a hard day’s work. (who are you kidding, you mean a hard nights gaming!) In the reclined position, I was concerned that the chair would be unbalanced, that it’s top heavy nature would be ever ready to teeter over and plant my noggin into the hard wood floor of my office. But my fears were thankfully allayed as the extra wide aluminium base gave the chair an unexpected stability.
Complimenting the back-tilt functionality, was a superb implementation of seat tilting. I like a seat to tilt back as it provides a bucket seat feel like a sports car. Additionally, having the seat tilted back forces your back into the back support making your spine sit more naturally, instead of you slouching forward. To make adjusting the tilt easy, the chair came with a multi tension dial that let me adjust the elastic rebound of the seat as I tilted it, great if you want to make tiny changes to the angle.
Overall
Moving onto the final, and most important aspect of this or any chair is the comfort. As gamers, we sit for long periods, ok very long periods, and it’s been scientifically proven that sitting is bad for your health in many ways. Who would have thought? So it’s important a chair provides the right support and comfort levels. Fortunately, the GT Omega excels at all aspects of seated luxury.
First, the seat uses high density cold moulded foam throughout to offer unrivalled padding. Upon sitting on the chair, I could feel the extra thick foam slump under my weight, moulding itself to my back, legs and bottom. GT state that the foam is designed to be hard when first used to make it last as long as possible. Soft foam has a habit of quickly losing its bounce. However, any fears of the chair being too hard were immediately destroyed. This could be the most comfortable seat I’ve ever had the privilege of planting my arse in. It hugs one’s posterior with affection and due care. And if the stunning padding wasn’t enough, the chair comes slathered in some of the finest PU leather I have ever run my dumpy fingers over. If they could replace all the leather usage in this world with this fake stuff, there would be many a happy consumer, but more importantly, many a happy Cow. The PU leather is soft to the touch and caressed any uncovered skin that contacted it.
Additionally, the PU leather, though essential plastic, is breathable. Important for those longer sessions of work or gaming. The Omega is a banquet of pleasure for your skin, a massage for your muscles, and saviour for your joints. Simply put: it’s a must have.
If you’re looking for an office chair that’s state of the art, offers a boat load of features, doubles up as an excellent gaming chair and money is no object, then this is the chair you should be buying.
Who Shouldn’t Buy It
If you’re just looking for an everyday office chair, or you just want a gaming chair for the occasional hour or two, then this chair might be a little overkill. Additionally, if you’re the thrifty type looking for a bargain, the Omega GT Racing SPORT chair is not for you.
